Forest Import Permit [Online]

The process of applying for a Forest Import Permit in Fiji is designed to regulate and control the importation of forest products, ensuring they meet the country’s environmental and biosecurity standards. Whether you are importing timber, wood products, or other forest-related goods, obtaining this permit from the Ministry of Forestry is a mandatory step in ensuring that your imports comply with local regulations and international Phytosanitary requirements. The application process is completed online through the Ministry’s official website, where applicants are required to submit necessary documentation, including commercial invoices, phytosanitary certificates (if applicable), and proof of legal ownership. Once all requirements are met, the Ministry reviews the application and issues the permit, typically within 24 to 48 hours. This system helps safeguard Fiji’s natural environment while facilitating the legitimate trade of forest products.

Procedure Steps
Step 1: Create an account at FLS Portal

New importers must register an account in the Licensing System Portal at the nearest Forestry Office, providing required documents such as the Company TIN letter, business registration, tax compliance, email address, and phone number. After registration, applicants will receive an email with their login credentials, website link, and further instructions regarding the license procedures and requirements.

Step 2: Submission of the Application

Before starting the application, ensure that all required documents are gathered and saved in a ZIP folder for easy upload during the online submission process. Once your documents are ready, complete the application online through the Ministry of Forestry's official website, where you will fill out the necessary details and submit the form. Step 3: Collect the Import License

The Ministry of Forestry will review the application and verify the submitted documents. If approved, the Forest Import Permit will be issued. If any documents are missing or incomplete, the trader will be notified to provide the required information. In case of rejection, the trader will be informed. The permit can be collected via email or downloaded from the Ministry’s portal.

Step 4: Inspection

A joint inspection by the BioSecurity and Forestry Department will take place when the consignment arrives at the Port of Entry or designated warehouse. Applicants must submit a copy of the Phytosanitary Certificate, import permit, invoice, and bill of lading. All documents will be verified to ensure the correct items are received, and the Forestry Officer will complete the clearance process on the portal.
