You start the process by completing the application form available on FTIP or TAF's website. Along with the form, submit all necessary technical documentation, including certificates of conformity to international standards and test reports from recognized laboratories. Pay the application fee of FJ$109.00 (VIP) per model when lodging your application. TAF will assess your submission for compatibility with local telecommunications infrastructure and environmental safety, a process that typically takes 10 working days. Be prepared to provide an equipment sample if requested. Once approved, the type approval certificate remains valid for the equipment’s lifespan, unless the product undergoes any modifications.

1 | Equipment Type Approval Requirement | The Telecommunications Authority of Fiji (TAF) mandates that all telecommunications equipment, including mobile phones, radio communication devices, and other ICT apparatuses connecting to telecommunication networks or transmitting radio waves, must undergo a type approval process before importation. | Permit Requirement | Telecommunications Authority of Fiji | This process helps prevent the entry of substandard or non-compliant devices that may interfere with network operations, public safety, or environmental health. Technically, it ensures interoperability with local networks and compliance with international benchmarks such as CE, FCC, and Australian/New Zealand standards. Each device type is individually assessed based on documentation and, where necessary, physical testing, reinforcing a robust compliance regime. | Telecommunications Act No. 1 of 2008 | 0002-12-06 | Good |
